Alton gets CCM Career win #1
8-15-09 Perseverance finally paid off for Lonny Alton, picking up his first career checkered flag with the Capital City Midgets. Alton bested the CCM field in the main event, finishing 13th overall in the American LeMans style race with the BCRA.
Petaluma’s long straights are a tough challenge for the ASCS style midgets and you can see the effects of giving up 100+hp to the more powerful national style midgets.
The evening for the CCM racers started off rough as Matt Land hit the wall during hot laps, ending his night (and potentially his season). Then the EcoTec engines of Rick Young and Dillon Silverman were hit by development gremlins rendering them to the back of the pack. Leaving a two car showdown between Alton and his nephew, Cody Spencer.
Spencer was hooked up and dialed in, working his way through the midget pack until lap 20, when a dislodged oil filter ended his night leaving the win to Uncle Lonny. Alton who finished one lap off the pace was finally rewarded for his steady performance this season. Lonny has been at every race and without a doubt would have won rookie of the year with any midget group. We are all proud and happy for him.
In heat race action, all of the CCM cars were in the same heat, Alton bested the CCM’s again, followed by Cody and full midget Rob Lindsey.
